Well that whole blogging every day thing didn't last long. Sorry I fell off the grid for awhile. It was a lot harder to blog and do stuff with my family here than I thought it would be. They left Friday night but I told myself that I wasn't able to blog until after I got my essay done. Well it's been 2 1/2 days and I still don't have my essay done, so I guess I'll just catch everyone up with everything. The essay is due tomorrow so I have to finish it before my friend helps me translate it tonight. I decided that writing it in English first would make it both sound better once I translated it, and make it easier to write in the first place. It didn't. I just really hate writing essays. But I've been so busy again. I have a ton of reading that I have to do and some studying, but I've pretty much just been watching YouTube videos and dreading what I have to do. I only have about 2 more months but I am already so ready for it to be June so I no longer have to worry about classes or homework. I just want to be able to go out and practice my Spanish like I did this week. We went on so many adventures. I saw more of Puerto Rico over the last week than I have the first 2 1/2 months of being here. That's really sad. But I realized that I know a lot more Spanish than I thought I did since my family doesn't know Spanish and I had to be their translator. I also got to drink out of a coconut. I don't know why that was so exciting for me. But I added all of the pictures to my Puerto Rican pictures page. I definitely took a lot. My dad also took a lot of videos that he added onto my computer so maybe I can add some of the more exciting ones to YouTube and then to here as well.
Probably the coolest thing that we got to do was go to the bioluminescent bay in Lajas. I'd add a picture that I found on the internet but for some reason it's not cooperating. Anyway, I've been dreaming of this since 6th grade after doing a project on Puerto Rico. That's actually how I decided that I wanted to study here. Now that I'm actually here I've kind of just fallen in love with it. There are obviously some aspects that I'm still not fully used to, and school is really difficult, but I find it more interesting than Wisconsin. So it's always been a dream of mine to come to Puerto Rico and visit the bay. I almost didn't get to when my family was here though because we couldn't get a reservation anywhere. Luckily we were able to find a boat ride where you don't need a reservation. The only bad part was that it was almost a full moon so it wasn't dark enough to really see much, which is also why I didn't get any pictures. But I did get to swim in it! It was so cool! I really want to go again when there's a new moon or something so that I can really see the light. I think Deidre wants to come as well as another friend of mine. Hopefully then it will be as bright as the pictures I've been seeing! It looks gorgeous! Everyone look it up!
Another cool thing that happened was we got to see baby sea turtles that had hatched that morning. I have a couple pictures on my Puerto Rico pictures page as well. I didn't bring my hoop which was a bummer. But back to the turtles. They were so cute! We watched one trying to swim out to the ocean and were cheering it on. I had never seen that before and I don't know if I ever will be able to again. I wish I could have seen the actual hatching. That would have been a once in a lifetime experience for sure. But unless I just recount everything that happened during Semana Santa (which I don't have time for right now since I should be doing my paper) I don't actually have that much to talk about. So I'm going to force myself to finish this paper.
XOXO Ericka
